Shoulder Pain

Shoulder Pain

Shoulder pain can make everyday activities such as reaching, lifting, dressing or sleeping uncomfortable. It may develop suddenly following an injury or gradually over time, affecting your ability to work, exercise and carry out normal daily activities.

At Elite Performance Therapy, every appointment begins with a thorough assessment to identify the cause of your shoulder pain before recommending the most appropriate treatment. Our aim is to reduce pain, improve movement and help you return to your normal activities as quickly and safely as possible.

What Causes Shoulder Pain?

Shoulder pain can have many different causes. It may develop following an injury, repetitive movements, poor posture, heavy lifting or changes in activity levels. Common causes include rotator cuff injuries, tendon irritation, frozen shoulder, shoulder impingement and muscle tension.

A thorough assessment helps identify the likely cause of your symptoms so treatment can be tailored to your individual needs rather than simply focusing on the area where you feel pain.

How We Can Help

At Elite Performance Therapy, every treatment begins with a thorough assessment to understand what’s causing your shoulder pain.

Treatment may include sports massage, remedial therapy, soft tissue techniques, stretching, mobility work and a personalised rehabilitation programme designed specifically for you. Where appropriate, medical acupuncture (dry needling) may also be used to help reduce muscle tension and relieve pain.

Our goal isn’t simply to ease your symptoms. We want to improve the way your shoulder moves, reduce the likelihood of your pain returning and help you get back to doing the things you enjoy.

Keeping Your Shoulders Healthy

Small changes often make a big difference. Improving your posture, strengthening the muscles around your shoulder, staying active and avoiding repetitive strain can all help reduce the risk of shoulder pain returning.

Understanding the cause of your symptoms is just as important as treating them, which is why we always combine hands-on treatment with practical advice and rehabilitation where appropriate.

We’ll also give you simple exercises and advice that you can continue at home, along with recommendations for ongoing treatment if needed to help keep your shoulders moving comfortably.

Don’t Let Shoulder Pain Hold You Back

If shoulder pain is affecting your work, sport or everyday life, we’re here to help. Early assessment and treatment can often prevent a small problem from becoming a long-term issue.

If you’re struggling with shoulder pain, we’d be happy to help. Book your appointment online and we’ll carry out a thorough assessment before creating a treatment plan tailored to your needs.

What our clients say:

I met with Isy in early January 2021 as I’d been suffering with a long standing shoulder injury for over 18 months and wanted some new ideas and input as to how to improve it as well as hands on treatment. I’ve found Isy’s knowledge and approach to this excellent as well as her great work she introduced me to her colleague Sarah (Chiropractor) which complimented the work Isy had already done. Three months in and lots of attention from Isy and Sarah, the shoulder is considerably better than it was before. Thank you very much.
